If you’ve driven past Patson Hill Farm in the last few months, you’ve probably clocked the steel frames, the JCBs, and the fleet of Rose Engineering vehicles lining the track — and wondered, “What are they building up there?”
Well, here’s your answer: we’re Apex Brewing Co., and we’re building a brewery. A big one. A bold one. And – we hope – a brilliant one.
While much of the drinks world has faced some uncertainty with the Government making it harder each year, craft beer is still shifting up a gear. People might be drinking less, but they’re drinking better – and we’re here to bring the better. With flavour. With intention. And with both feet firmly planted in local soil.
We’re backing British beer with everything we’ve got: British hops, British malt, British engineering. The brewhouse itself – now fully commissioned and raring to go – was built by the brilliant 6PD, just down the road in Milborne Port. Nearly every nut and bolt has a local story behind it, and we’ve done the groundwork too: bored into our own water source, put in our own substation, and laid the foundations – literally and figuratively – for something that’ll last.
The building to house all this brewing firepower is due to be completed this summer, with the brewery itself up and running on the farm from early autumn. We’ve already been brewing with our mates at Moor Brewery in Bristol – testing recipes, honing flavours, and getting our name out there. You’ll find our 3.9% session NEIPA (that’s New England IPA, for the uninitiated) popping up on bars across Dorset right now, with more beers following in the coming weeks and months.
We’re doing things the long way round – no shortcuts – because that’s often the right way. We're not chasing fads or importing styles by the pallet. Every beer we make is unfiltered, unfined, and full of local flavour.
And, we’re not just building a brewery. We’re building a place. A space. A proper hilltop home for beer lovers, where the doors (and the pints) are open to everyone.
Early next year, we’ll be launching our on-site taproom – a destination with a view, set against the rolling Dorset hills. It’ll be somewhere to gather, taste, talk, and toast. And because we know rural means remote, we’re running our very own beer bus: The Growler – a reconditioned British Leyland minibus, wrapped to look like a pint on wheels. Locals will be able to book it for free, so getting to the taproom won’t mean choosing between a decent drink and a designated driver.
So why are we doing all this? Because we believe in beer. Proper beer. Beer that belongs to everyone. And because we believe that even in tough times, there’s room – and real appetite – for something better…and fun!
